Skull Rock – Congress, Arizona

“Skull Rock” is a large random painted rock in the middle of the desert just outside the city of Congress, Arizona. Rumor has it that it was painted by a Santa Fe railroad crew as a joke to scare passengers as they passed by.

Directions: From Hwy 89, turn west onto Date Creek Rd (unpaved), which is about 2 miles North of Congress. Drive around 5-6 miles and cross the train tracks, and about one more mile, look off to your right in the distance.
